Happy New Year!

Welcome to another New Year! For many people, at this time of year we are still recovering from our hectic holiday season, and thinking about setting resolutions or goals for the year ahead.  Others don’t bother with goals, they just dive in.  Before you move forward, before you set resolutions and goals for the year ahead, let’s take a moment to look back and reflect on the path you’ve taken.  Then take a moment to celebrate all you’ve survived and accomplished in the past year.

Sincerely,

Lori Howard

p.s. As you can see, the newsletter does not have a new name, yet.  Due to some fun challenges in December and January, a new name will not be announced until February – along with a winner of the Name the Newsletter contest!

Your Year in Review

‘Tis the season for New Year’s Resolutions, or rebellion against the resolution, depending on your experience with resolutions. The focus of both my newsletter and blog in the past few months has been embracing and appreciating what you already have. Here is another way to actively appreciate what you already have, or have done. As many of you know, I’m all for goal setting and making plans to meet those goals.

However, before we proceed with looking at the year ahead, I’d like to take a moment in the wake of the holiday season to look back and reflect on the year behind. Let’s take a moment to reflect on your successes and accomplishments in 2008.

In looking back, you will find skills and strengths that you already possess, which you will be able to call upon as needed in the year ahead. So let’s get started. List your success and accomplishments from 2008. Be as detailed as you like. Take the time to recall each accomplishment from the past year. List out the successes that you are proud of. List big things and small things – size does not matter here. Next I want you to take some time to really look at your list, what do you notice?  What skills have you learned?  What strengths do you see?  What risks have you taken?   Take note and allow yourself to feel good about all you’ve done.

When you finish your list, pour yourself a cup of herbal tea or even champagne and raise a glass to toast your accomplishments from 2008. Go you! Give thanks for the lessons you’ve learned, the skills you’ve gained, as well as the ones you already had.

To take the celebration further, share this list with friends or family. Even better, have each person share their list and host a night of celebrations.

You will find, as you begin to set goals and tackle them in 2009, that your experiences in 2008 have added to your own tools, to prepare for 2009.

I’d love to hear from you, post your thoughts below!
