Week 5 of Enjoying and Appreciating Life As It Is

December 18, 2008

This week’s tip is a quick one.  Take 10 minutes and spend it petting or playing with your cat or dog.  I’m a huge fan of this form of “fur therapy” in cold winter months and in stressful times.  Nothing compares to the love and affection of a pet.  If you don’t have pets – visit a shelter and spend a few minutes with the animals there!   Shelters love visitors, even if you can’t take someone home.

Week 3 of Enjoying and Appreciating Life As It Is

December 5, 2008

Here’s something you can do at any family gathering or holiday party you attend this year.  Or you can do it on the phone calls we all make this time of year to check in or catch up with family and friends. It costs you nothing and can be worked in any time you are having conversation (or perhaps struggling to have conversation).

Ask folks what their favorite holiday memory is – the one they most enjoy.  And listen, really listen to their story. Take pleasure in their pleasure. You can do this with family, friends, even acquaintances or strangers.  Sharing memories is a nice way to enjoy your life, while helping others enjoy theirs.

Stay tuned for the next issue of the Coach for a Better Life Newsletter – which is published Monday!

Thanksgiving is behind us here in the US.  And the holiday shopping frenzy is ramping up.  It can be easy to forget what giving really is.  It can also be easy to think we have too little to offer.  So here’s this week’s suggestion.

Collect your loose change for 1 week – and give it to the cause of your choosing. (more…)
